Gallery: Sunrise Soar II
The balloon is filled at the selected launch site, Texas State University in San Marcos.
With the balloon filled, closeout on the capsule begins.
A small red strobe light is attached to the bottom of the capsule, seen here as a dashed trail as the balloon lifts off at 6:05am.
Sunrise approaches as the team packs up. The capsule will have already experienced sunrise earlier at its target altitude.
The moment of sunrise from the edge of space.
The balloon has burst by this point, beginning the descent phase of the flight.
Throughout descent, an unexpectedly large portion of the balloon remained attached to the line. It drifted in front of the camera during this shot.
Anti-crespuscular rays have converged at the anti-solar point, seen here during descent.
The body of water captured in this shot is Canyon Lake in Comal County.
After confirming a GPS location, the team departs on the recovery mission. Here Daniel compares a satellite image from Google Earth with roads on the GPS.
The landing zone: A ranch on the edge of Comal County. No damage was found, but during descent the parachute line become tangled.
